چکیده
mortality with hazard-ratios ranging from 0.44 to 0.71 depending on age and gender. The association was strongest for men in the age group 50 – 60 years, showing a 56% lower risk of dying for men with LDL-C 3 mmol/L than for those with LDL-C 3 mmol/L. High levels of both total cholesterol ( 5 mmol/L) and HDL cholesterol ( 1 mmol/L) were associated with lower mortality, but hazardratios were not as low as for LDL-C levels.

Statin use reduces cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality amongst Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a 5-year cohort study
BACKGROUND The benefit of statin on the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) among Chinese patients in primary care is not clear nor fully implemented in clinical practice. This study aimed to evaluate and quantify the benefit of statin on the overall cardiovascular risk and all-cause mortality in patients with T2DM. METHODS Uncomplicated diabetic patients with baseline low-density-l...
متن کاملPredictors of long-term mortality in new start statin users
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide and studies have found a direct relationship between levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and coronary heart disease. Statins are the most commonly prescribed medications to lower cholesterol, a major controllable risk factor for coronary heart disease. OBJECTIVE This study aims to find what factors in...
متن کاملStatins and Risk of New-Onset Diabetes Mellitus
For any prescription drug, the potential benefits to health must be balanced against potential risks. Understanding these potential risks can help physicians and patients make informed decisions on whether to use a medication. Recently, statins, a class of medications prescribed to treat high cholesterol levels, have been found to modestly increase the risk of developing diabetes mellitus. It i...
متن کاملStatin Discontinuation after Achieving a Target Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Level in Type 2 Diabetic Patients without Cardiovascular Disease: A Randomized Controlled Study
BACKGROUND This study investigated the rate of relapse of dyslipidemia and the factors which could predict relapse following a short-term statin discontinuation after achieving a target low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level in type 2 diabetic patients without cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS Ninety-nine subjects on rosuvastatin treatment and whose LDL-C level was lower than 1...

OBJECTIVE To examine a relationship between statin intensity and heart failure (HF) incidence in diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study of patients with type 2 diabetes (n=600; age, 66.3 years; men, 68%). Patients were categorized into three groups by baseline statin treatments-moderate-intensity, low-intensity, or no statin-and the independent associa...
